The Nightingale, 4:30 pm, Sunday 16th August at CoCA - (G) 100 minutes

Zhigen, an old Chinese farmer living alone in Beijing, sets out on a journey
to remote Yangshuo to honor the promise he made his late wife to go back to
his native village to free his bird that is now his only companion in the
city.
He compels Renxing, his granddaughter, an only child raised in the lap of
urban luxury to accompany him.
During this trip to the confines of traditional China, these two people who
are worlds apart will share memories and adventures . The little girl is
going to discover new values , especially those of the heart.
The film was shot mainly in Beijing and Guangxi , Yangshuo , Guilin, near
Sanjiang , in villages of the Dong minority.
A sweet film about bridging the generation gap.

Raising Arizona, 7pm, Wednesday 19th August - Starry Night Cinema, Cairns
Botanic Gardens, Collins Ave - (PG) 95 mins

The Coen Brothers unleash comic farce in RAISING ARIZONA (1987).
Non-violent stickup man H.I. McDonnough (Nicholas Cage), goes straight so he
can marry police mugshot photographer Edwina ³Ed² (Holly Hunter). The comedy
begins as the devoted couple surmount obstacles to complete their perfect
family. Tickets at the door from 5:30pm

Last Paradise, 7:30 pm, Thursday 20th August at CoCA - (PG) 104 minutes

End Credits is pleased to be hosting a screening of ³LAST PARADISE², a Best
of Banff prize winning film, that has been dubbed ³the greatest story of
adrenaline and innovation² - a story of how a bunch of young adventurers,
including AJ Hackett, met in the wilderness and pushed the limits of
innovation to pioneer the modern concept of extreme sports and adventure
travel. For physicist/film maker Clive Neeson the film has literally been a
lifetime in the making and that journey has revealed major issues about our
future and how we will innovate the vital solutions for survival of our
civilisation. But oddly enough, its all concealed in the fun of adventure
and 45 years of jaw-dropping original footage.
The screening will be followed by a Q & A session with the filmmaker.
Ticket sales through CoCA.
