With the recent decision to approve 5 million tonnes (or 3 million cubic metres) of dredge spoil dumping in the Great Barrier Reef lagoon the need to find other avenues of protecting the GBR became even more urgent. The concept of giving Mother Earth/Nature legal rights and identity started with the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth and has already been implemented in all of Ecuador and Bolivia and in specific areas of New Zealand.

This movie <http://unitednaturesmovie.com/> features interviews with many deep thinkers on this issue around the planet and will increase your own awareness of this essential change in our relationship to nature to one closer to that of the traditional and indigenous peoples of the world. Fergus Power, Principal Solicitor EDO-NQ, will inform the audience about the Environmental Defenders Office of Northern Queensland’s campaign to establish a legal identity for the GBR so that third parties can take legal action to protect it from damage.
